PACIFIC BEACH MIDDLE SCHOOL Pacific Beach Middle School offers a learning environment that encompasses rigorous academic standards and high expectations in citizenship for our students. The Pacific Beach Middle School mission is to provide a nurturing environment that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for learning which allows students to grow into resourceful and responsible citizens. It is our intent that students will be accountable for their own learning. Through teacher and student interaction, students will become effective problem solvers, lifelong learners and successful communicators. They will learn from this interaction an understanding of personal differences through tolerance and unconditional acceptance of all. This will encourage our students to make positive contributions to our community locally and beyond. At Pacific Beach Middle School, we offer a variety of programs such as the International Baccalaureate, GATE, Seminar, AVID, English Learner and Special Education including PACE and Special Day class in order to meet the academic needs of all our students. Pacific Beach Middle School has been reconfigured in order to address the needs of middle schools students. We have created ‘Teams’ at each grade level composed of four core teachers (English, Math, Social Studies/Art, Science and Technology). Each House has approximately 150 students. We believe that these smaller learning communities will enhance each middle school students’ learning experience. Our core program follows the California State Standards by infusing the Balanced Literacy Framework and the Math and Science Frameworks. These instructional practices lead to a rigorous curriculum. Complimenting our core program (English, Math, Social Studies and Science), Pacific Beach Middle School offers a comprehensive Physical Education program. The Physical Education department focuses on cardiovascular fitness and motor coordination. We have a state-of-the-art fitness room that enhances our students’ fitness program. Along with Physical Education, Pacific Beach Middle School offers a variety of electives for every student. Our electives include Spanish 1-2, Spanish for Spanish Speakers, and AVID. At Pacific Beach Middle School, we encourage and advocate for parental involvement at all levels. Pacific Beach Middle School meets monthly with the School Site Council and the PTO. We have an active PTO that fundraises in order to support aspects of our school. In order to inform parents about school events and their student progress, we send quarterly newsletters and six-week progress reports to all families. You will find that at Pacific Beach Middle School we provide a nurturing and rigorous educational experience to meet the individual needs of our students.
