PARENT INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Parent Involvement
Getting Involved with your student and school!

One way to help your student succeed in school is to be active in their school life!  There are many ways to participate in your student’s education.  You can call or email your student’s teachers to find out about your student’s academic and citizenship progress. You can also attend Back to School and Open House events in order to experience your student’s classes.  Another way to get involved is by participating in leadership committees!  At Pacific Beach Middle School, we have several leadership committees:

  • School Site Council (SSC), School Governance Council (SGT), English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC)
  • Friends of Pacific Beach Secondary Schools – FOPBSS – a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

Please check out the 2005-06 master calendar to find out the meeting dates for each of these leadership committees and times. Along with keeping up-to-date with your student’s academic progress and participating on leadership committees, PBMS welcomes and encourages volunteers! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact the main office at 858-273-9070.

Transitioning from Elementary School to Middle School
Helping your student adjust to middle school

As students leave elementary school to attend a middle school, they may become anxious with anticipation. In middle school, students will have 5-6 teachers and 5-6 classes.  This is a big difference from elementary school. By helping your student transition to middle school, you can ease your student’s anxiety.  Here are a few tips to help ease your student’s transition to middle school:

  • Speak with your student daily regarding school and their new responsibilities and experiences
  • Communicate with your student’s teachers regularly either by phone or email
  • Create a home structure to support your student’s academic progress such as having a common homework time and place
  • Check your student’s planners for daily homework and upcoming projects
