Pacific Beach Middle School is located in San Diego California, one mile east of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. We enjoy being part of the unique Pacific Beach community but we are proud of our international status. In 2007 we earned the prestigious title of International Baccalaureate World School from the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. 

 

As part of the San Diego Unified School District, we are a public school offering the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) to approximately 700 children from Pacific Beach and areas throughout San Diego. Our 6th-8th grade students enjoy an outstanding international education focusing on the fundamentals of holistic learning, communication, and intercultural understanding. Students learn through traditional instruction as well as project-based learning and inquiry in both single subject and interdisciplinary units. Because we believe all students should have access to a balanced, well-rounded education, our courses also include visual and performing arts, design technology, Language B (Spanish), physical education and fitness, and advanced mathematics. Our MYP is a whole-school program where all students learn the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes outlined by regional requirements as well as the IB standards and practices recognized around the world in over 2600 IB World Schools.

PB Middle aims to provide a compassionate and caring environment that fosters student inquiry, critical thinking, communication, and holistic learning. All students will have the opportunity to become successful internationally-minded lifelong learners who use their skills, knowledge, understanding, and attitudes to solve real-life problems and create a healthy and peaceful world.  (Approved, 2009)

The International Baccalaureate Organization aims  to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the IBO works with school, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to work to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people with their differences can also be right.
